01

The leveling-first rule

Enchanting works best when normal play supplies the items. Keep genuine upgrades, sell valuable bind-on-equip pieces when gold matters, and disenchant the rest. Tailoring is the natural partner because cloth drops during ordinary questing and can become extra disenchantable gear without a gathering profession.

02

Levels 1–20: build dust from surplus rewards

Humanoid quest zones such as Westfall, Darkshore, Loch Modan, The Barrens and Silverpine provide cloth and green items. Craft a wand early if it benefits your class, but do not destroy a weapon or armor upgrade for one skill point. The Deadmines and Wailing Caverns are ideal first dungeon-quest runs because bosses and quests produce several item decisions at once.

03

Levels 20–35: let dungeons feed the profession

Duskwood, Wetlands, Hillsbrad, Ashenvale and Stonetalon generate Wool and mid-level greens. Stockades, Shadowfang Keep, Blackfathom Deeps and Razorfen Kraul provide compact batches of loot. Disenchant after the run, then use the resulting dust and essences on low-cost enchants rather than carrying a growing pile of uncertain materials.

04

Levels 35–50: Scarlet Monastery to Zul’Farrak

Questing in Stranglethorn, Arathi, Desolace, Badlands and the Hinterlands supplies Silk, Mageweave and green rewards. Scarlet Monastery, Razorfen Downs, Uldaman, Zul’Farrak and Maraudon are strong quest destinations with multiple bosses. Coordinate Need and Greed normally; being an Enchanter does not create automatic ownership of unwanted drops.

05

Levels 50–60: save high-value materials for deliberate enchants

Felwood, the Plaguelands, Burning Steppes, Un’Goro and Winterspring offer Runecloth, quest rewards and world drops. Blackrock Depths, Dire Maul, Scholomance and Stratholme combine long quest chains with dense loot. Keep enough high-level dust, essences and shards for enchants that improve your leveling or first endgame set.

06

Dungeon habit

Offer to disenchant only after loot rules are clear. If the group agrees, handle unwanted bind-on-pickup items consistently and distribute or roll on the materials as promised. Complete dungeon quests first; a fast clear with no quests is often worse for character progression than a slightly slower, prepared run.

07

Catch-up farms

Do not grind random mobs solely for green items. Farm cloth-bearing humanoids only when they overlap a quest, reputation or useful drop, then turn surplus cloth into inexpensive Tailoring pieces. If you still lack materials, repeat a dungeon only while its quests, gear or group experience remain worthwhile.
