01

The leveling-first rule

Pair Blacksmithing with Mining and gather along ridges, caves and zone edges while completing quests. Smelt after a route, craft at an anvil in batches, and prioritize sharpening stones, weightstones and real equipment upgrades. Blacksmithing consumes more metal than normal questing supplies, so short catch-up circuits are expected.

02

Levels 1–20: Copper and Tin beside early quests

Copper is plentiful in every starting region; Elwynn, Dun Morogh, Durotar, Mulgore and Tirisfal all work. Move into Tin while questing in Loch Modan, Westfall, The Barrens, Redridge and Silverpine. The Deadmines and Wailing Caverns provide dungeon quests, cloth and useful gear while nearby caves and ridges refill your ore supply.

03

Levels 20–35: Bronze and Iron without abandoning the route

Wetlands, Duskwood, Hillsbrad, Ashenvale and Stonetalon are good Tin and early Iron quest zones. Arathi Highlands and Thousand Needles are stronger once Iron becomes the main requirement. Combine Stockades, Shadowfang Keep, Blackfathom Deeps and Razorfen Kraul with their quest chains, then craft only enough intermediate pieces to reach useful recipes.

04

Levels 35–50: Iron, Steel and Mithril

Quest through Arathi, Badlands, Stranglethorn Vale, Desolace and the Hinterlands, tracing cliffs and cave walls for Iron and Mithril. Scarlet Monastery, Uldaman, Razorfen Downs, Zul’Farrak and Maraudon offer concentrated quest progress and gear that helps you avoid overcrafting temporary armor. Keep stone from mining; Blacksmithing uses more than bars alone.

05

Levels 50–60: Mithril and Thorium on endgame roads

Searing Gorge, Burning Steppes, Un’Goro Crater, Felwood, Winterspring and the Plaguelands let you quest beside Mithril, Small Thorium and Rich Thorium veins. Blackrock Depths is the signature profession dungeon because it supports major quest chains and specialist Blacksmithing objectives. Add Dire Maul, Scholomance and Stratholme when their quests are ready.

06

Dungeon habit

Treat dungeon drops as protection against waste: if a quest reward replaces the item you planned to craft, spend those bars on skill-efficient components, stones or a later milestone instead. Carry a hammer, empty bags before the run, and agree on ore-node etiquette with the group.

07

Catch-up farms

Use short ridge circuits in Loch Modan or The Barrens for Copper and Tin, Arathi or Thousand Needles for Iron, Badlands or the Hinterlands for Mithril, and Un’Goro, Winterspring or the Plaguelands for Thorium. Return to questing when your current ore can support the next trainer band.
