Join a group that matches your experience
Tell the organizer that this is your first run or that you are returning after a long break. Ask whether the group is comfortable explaining unfamiliar pulls. Confirm the destination, your role and how long the run may take before you commit. If somebody wants a pace you cannot enjoy, find another party. Being honest at the start gives everyone a chance to choose a good match without making a later disagreement personal.
Prepare the unglamorous essentials
Repair, clear useful bag space and bring recovery supplies appropriate to your character. Check relevant quests and where the entrance is, including the journey to it. Put your defensive and utility abilities on keys you can find. A healer should be comfortable selecting party members; a tank should understand their basic threat tools. Our role guide explains the responsibilities without assuming that you already know the vocabulary.
Learn the party’s signals
Ask who starts fights, which target to focus and what a marked enemy means. Stay close enough to follow directions while avoiding unnecessary enemies. Tell the group promptly if you need a break, have lost your way or lack resources. Keep pets under deliberate control. Before using a knockback, fear or other ability that changes enemy positioning, consider whether it may bring extra enemies into the fight. An impressive button can be the wrong tool in a narrow corridor.
Handle drops and mistakes calmly
Clarify the loot arrangement before the first important item drops. If you are unsure whether something is an upgrade, ask instead of guessing at a roll. After a wipe, wait for the recovery plan rather than immediately running in alone. Use the pause to identify one practical improvement: a dangerous cast, an extra patrol or a missed resource break. You do not need a speech about every error, but pretending nothing happened makes it harder to improve.
Leave with knowledge as well as loot
A run is worthwhile when you learn an entrance, an encounter or how to coordinate with your class tools, even if your hoped-for item does not drop. Thank people who explain patiently. Note a couple of changes for next time and replenish what you used before another run. Our party organization guide helps you form your own learning group. Use short sessions for preparation when you cannot commit to the dungeon itself.
