Decide what you want to make
Mining is a familiar source of metalworking materials, while Blacksmithing and Engineering offer different production goals. Consider Blacksmithing if the appeal is making weapons or armor. Consider Engineering if devices and situational tools sound more interesting. Check the actual recipes available in Forever before assuming a remembered item exists unchanged. Neither choice is automatically the best profession for a class, and neither makes its materials free simply because you gathered them yourself.
Treat a mining trip as a real activity
Choose a safe route that fits your gathering skill and leave enough bag space for the results. If you are questing, set a limit on detours so each tempting node does not take you farther from the original objective. In a party, agree how much gathering the group is comfortable waiting for. When you need a dedicated materials trip, call it that and enjoy it. There is no reason to disguise a gathering evening as failed quest progression.
Blacksmithing: inspect an upgrade before investing
Find a recipe you can learn, check its materials, weapon or armor type, required level and any crafting station requirement. Compare the result with what you already use and how long it is likely to remain useful. A Warrior or Paladin may enjoy the theme without every craft being an upgrade. If you craft for friends, ask about their build and current equipment rather than choosing an item because its name sounds appropriate.
Engineering: read who can use the result
A device’s usefulness depends on its requirements and how it behaves in the situation you care about. Read whether it needs Engineering skill to use, has a cooldown or carries other limitations. Practise unfamiliar gadgets somewhere manageable before adding them to a dungeon routine. Do not assume an item from Retail, a later Classic expansion or a seasonal ruleset is part of Forever. Keep the project focused on a couple of tools you understand rather than a bag full of experiments.
Budget for the whole recipe
Metal is only one possible cost. Check stones, cloth, vendor components and intermediate crafts before making a shopping trip. A cheap-looking final item can consume materials you wanted for another goal. Our crafting guide explains batching, while profession pairings helps you compare alternatives. If you are choosing a craft for group utility, discuss the camp plan with your friends before changing professions.
